EUROPEAN WILDCAT IN BELGIUM FOR THE FIRST TIME IN OVER 150 YEARS

08/10/2012

European wildcat in Belgium for the first time in over 150 years

European wildcat (Nol Goossens)

For the first time in over 150 years, a European wildcat has surfaced in Flanders. A volunteer of Natuurpunt has succeeded in filming the animal with a camera trap in the nature reserve Smeetshof in Bocholt, a vast area owned by Natuurpunt in Limburg province. It’s the second time this year that a spectacular animal shows up in the Smeetshof. In the spring scientists from the University of Antwerp managed to film an otter there.
